STONINGTON — Reports of a home invasion at a Hewitt Road residence on Tuesday were determined to be false, police said, and the investigation further determined that no criminal incident of any kind had occurred.

Stonington Police Capt. Todd Olson said Thursday that after conducting a thorough investigation, detectives found there was no truth to the original reports that an unknown man had attacked a woman. The detectives said there was no assault or other incident of any kind.

“When residents hear about a possible home invasion, they are often alarmed and for good reason,” Olson said. “We want those in the neighborhood to know there is no threat.” The police said it has not been decided whether the woman would face charges.

Police were called to a home on Hewitt Road on Tuesday just after 10:15 a.m. with reports of a possible home invasion after the caller told police she was knocked out by an unknown male and had just regained consciousness. The woman was treated for injuries at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.
