Bradford man facing charge after firing gun in house

WESTERLY — A Bradford man is facing charges after police said he improperly fired a handgun in his home following a domestic dispute with his girlfriend.

Robert J. Colprit III, 34, of 49 North Main St., was taken into custody Monday afternoon on charges of firing in a compact area, domestic simple assault or battery and disorderly conduct.

Westerly Police Chief Richard Silva said the charges stem from a complaint regarding a domestic dispute that occurred at Colprit’s home shortly before 2 p.m. Monday. Following the dispute, Silva said the two had separated from one another when Colprit fired the shot inside the house. An investigation determined that no threats were made and the gun was not used during the dispute or ever pointed at anyone. There was no threat to the public, Silva said.

Colprit was cooperative with officers and was taken into custody without further incident. He is expected to appear for arraignment in Fourth Division District Court later this month.
