An F9F Panther fighter jet once flown by Ted Williams was on display at the Flyhawk parking lot on Atlantic Avenue in Misquamicut on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017. As a gesture to honor veterans the week of VJ Day, Koch provided free parking for those coming to view the jet. For a $10 donation, patrons could climb up to 20 feet and have their photo taken in the cockpit. All photo proceeds were donated to support the USS Saratoga Museum Foundation, a nonprofit organization.Ted Williams served as a World War II Navy Pilot, and in 1950 during the Korean War as a Marine captain, where he flew 39 missions before being shot down. “Ted Williams was my idol”, said Koch. | Christine Corrigan, The Westerly Sun
