WESTERLY — An Iowa native is in line to become the town’s next zoning official.

The appointment of Nathan Reichert of Muscatine, Iowa, was announced in a news release Monday. He is expected to start his new position on May 15.

According to the news release, Reichert gained extensive construction and development experience while serving as general manager for Pepperstone Group, a real estate and construction firm based in Muscatine. In his role, Reichert was responsible for leading the planning, zoning and development of a 40-lot subdivision. In addition to his work with Pepperstone, Reichert was a construction analyst for the Indiana Illinois Iowa Foundation for Fair Contracting, where he guided construction projects through planning, economic development, regulatory approval, compliance and safe construction practices and processes.

Reichert holds a master’s of business administration from the University of Iowa.

“Mr. Reichert will bring a diverse background of relevant experience to the department,” said Town Manager Derrik M. Kennedy. “I am very happy for Mr. Reichert to come on board and add to the already great Department of Development Services.”

As zoning official, Reichert will be responsible for overseeing compliance with all zoning applications, submissions, tracking and approvals. He will also be responsible for providing oversight and enforcement of zoning related violations, including issuing notices of violations, assessment of fines, and referrals to appropriate courts.

Reichert will fill a vacancy created when former Zoning Officer Jason Parker was appointed town planner in October.
