    Weichert, Realtors’ Richard earns certification

WESTERLY — Weichert, Realtors-Suburban Properties has announced that broker associate Michelle Richard has earned the Military Relocation Professional certification, conferred by the National Association of Realtors (NAR).

Providing expertise in military benefits, the relocation process and support, the designation equips realtors to help military personnel and veterans find housing solutions that best meet their needs and allows them to take full advantage of their military benefits. Realtors who earn the MRP certification know how to work with active duty military buyers and sellers, as well as veterans.

“A certified realtor understands specific needs and timetables related to military service,” NAR President Gary Thomas said. “The Military Relocation Professional certification will help realtors hone their knowledge and skills for working with veterans and active duty military buyers and sellers to ensure that homeownership remains affordable and accessible to them.”

Mystic chamber to partner with The Light House on program

MYSTIC — The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce and The Light House Voc-Ed Center have announced a partnership to create “Mystic Matters on the Road.” In addition to filming the “Mystic Matters” public-access television show at the Comcast studio in Groton, they will also bring the show to member businesses by filming at their locations.

The LIVECTA Programs, a division of The Light House, has developed an internship program for individuals with autism spectrum disorders to work on the show’s production. “We are thrilled to be working with The Light House staff and students to provide this opportunity to our members,” Walsh said.

Five episodes have been scheduled for taping in 2014. The first episode will air this spring.

Mystic chamber announces 2014 event schedule

MYSTIC — The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce has announced its event schedule for 2014. Traditional events like the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival, Groton Fall Festival, Holiday Lighted Boat Parade combined with newer events like Fusion, Restaurant Week and others will be the driving force behind the fundraising efforts for the chamber in 2014. In the coming months, the chamber expects to make announcements regarding new events as well.

While established events continue to infuse the calendar, there are some significant changes. The most notable is the absence of the Taste of Mystic, traditionally held in September.

“While we are disappointed that changes in circumstances have made the Taste of Mystic unable to happen this year, we are excited for the new event opportunities this presents,” said Tricia Walsh, chamber president.

The chamber is developing supplemental events for the area and will continue to grow established events. A cocktail reception on Saturday evening to kick off the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival is one of the newer additions.

The fundraising events calendar is as follows:

May 9, Fusion; Aug. 9, Mystic Outdoor Art Festival Cocktail Party; Aug. 9-10, Mystic Outdoor Art Festival; Oct. 11, Groton Fall Festival; Nov. 29, Santa Arrives by Tugboat and Lighted Holiday Boat Parade; Dec. 6, Groton Lights Parade and Tree Lighting.
