The Math Helper to open in Westerly

WESTERLY — The Math Helper: Solving Math Emergencies, a business that offers students assistance in mathematics, is opening in March at 16 High St., Suite B.

The Math Helper assists students in kindergarten through ninth grade (Algebra I), including Common Core curriculum. Walk-in service by certified math teachers is available — no appointment is necessary — and clients can visit as often as needed.

“It’s more of a membership,” owner Susie Scanapieco said. “You come and go as you want, and stay as long as you want. Every day’s a little different.

“For instance, a second-grader may not have the attention span to last two hours, or even one hour, with a tutor. Instead, they can come in for 20 minutes a day and that way we can gain a relationship. That way we gain momentum and work on skills more consecutively than just once a week. There’s that continuous aspect.”

Contracts are available for three months ($300), six months ($550) and 10 months ($800), and a multiple-child discount is also available.

The Math Helper is open Tuesday through Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Call Scanapieco at 401-230-9145 or email her at mscanapieco@me.com.
