MYSTIC — The United Way of Southeastern Connecticut’s Day of Action will be held Monday, June 23. They will work on The Giving Garden at Coogan Farm, 162 Greenmanville Ave.
The Giving Garden is the result of an agreement by the Nature Center, United Way of Southeastern Connecticut and the Robert G. Youngs Family Foundation. The garden will provide fresh food to thousands of hungry residents of New London County daily.
Dozens of workers from the United Way will work on projects including cutting back overgrowth, picking stones, spreading seaweed, spreading wood chips, and turning soil in preparation for the garden. The goal is to have four more plots ready by the end of the day.
Mohegan Sun, the Day of Action sponsor, is providing lunch, and volunteers will work from 1 to 4 hours.
