Hera Gallery hosts ‘Haiku’ by Jacobs

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Hera Gallery will feature the exhibition “Haiku” by Jeannette Jacobs through Oct. 5 at its new location at 10 High St.

Jacobs, who has made more than 100 originally designed quilts, spent her college years at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. After that she worked as a graphic designer with many corporate clients and employers that included Prentice-Hall, CBS, Chiquita, AT&T, and Harper Collins. In December 2002, Jacobs moved to Rhode Island and started to slow down her graphic design work so that she could focus on her own art. She explored painting, working in 3D, and then, in 2005, discovered quilt making.

“When I work on a quilt, I put away all thoughts that are not helpful and direct my energies towards relaxing and focusing,” the artist says. “I work intuitively. I begin to see shapes in my head and think about how to cut them out of the huge palette of colors and patterns that I have in my fabrics. I have learned not to think about what others expect or what will sell, but rather I look at my time in my studio as a process of discovery.
