The South County premiere of "Rent" opens Friday, Feb. 5 at the Courthouse Center for the Arts in West Kingstown. The musical, written by Jonathan Larson and based on Puccini's opera, "La Boheme," swept the major theater awards of 1996 including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Obie Award, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award and four Tonys. The show encompasses all of the most important issues of our time, and tells the all-too-familiar story of barely making it in the world. Its moral is that the only things that matter are friendship, honesty, love, and happiness.

The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce will present the Taste of Mystic from 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, through 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, in downtown Mystic. Over 30 local restaurants will line Cottrell Street, each offering a taste of their specialty. In addition to live performances by The Cartells, Eight to the Bar, High Times, and the Kevin Crandall Band, the Taste of Mystic will host the Mohegan Sun Oyster Open. The Seafood Festival will be held Friday and Saturday at Memorial Square, Ocean Road. The parade of decorated commercial and recreational watercraft and blessing will take place at noon, Saturday, in the fishing village of Galilee, Narragansett.
RICHMOND - At the annual Westerly-Stonington Thanksgiving Day football game in 1968, an award was presented to Tony Scaglione as the outstanding Westerly High lineman of the year.
