Rachelle Sylvia of Westerly received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of the Holy Cross at its 167th commencement on May 24. Approximately 701 students received degrees this year at Holy Cross. The writer and teacher Anne Fadiman was the principal speaker.
Navy Midshipman Taylor J. Albamonti, son of Thomas P. Albamonti II of Westerly, recently completed Plebe Summer at the U.S. Naval Academy. Albamonti is a 2012 graduate of Westerly High School.

Tyler James Cipriani, son of Michael and Linda Cipriani of North Stonington, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and a minor in biology from Northeastern University.
Bianca Baldelli of Stonington, a criminal justice major, and Kyle Fletcher of Ashaway, a double major in psychology and theater arts, were named to the dean’s list at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H., for the spring 2013 semester.
Joann K. Turo of Westerly recently participated in the International Psychoanalytic Congress meeting in Prague. At the Aug. 2 session, Turo presented a paper on the significance of time and memory in the therapy process, freeing individuals suffering from various debilitating symptoms related to trauma. A fellow of the International Psychoanalytic Association, Turo is also a training and supervising analyst at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the Contemporary Freudian Society in New York, a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association, and a representative to the North American Psychoanalytic Confederation. She is a recent nominee in the election to the board of representatives of the International Psychoanalytic Association. Turo is in private practice in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy in New York.
Thomas White, son of Maureen White and Jason White of Stonington, and a graduate of The Hotchkiss School, was named to the spring 2013 dean’s list at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa.
Allison Miller, daughter of Robert Miller of Westerly, and a graduate of Barrington High School, was named to the dean’s list at Franklin & Marshall College for the spring semester.
Mark A Baker of Charlestown was named to the spring Athletic Directors Honor Roll at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. To qualify, students must be an intercollegiate athlete with a minimum 3.0 grade point.
Allison Durfee has been selected to receive the Washington County Retired Teachers’ Association Scholarship. Durfee recently graduated from Westerly High School and is a student at the Community College of Rhode Island, where she us enrolled in the general studies program.
Matthew Wong, a chemical engineering major at the University of Delaware, was named to the spring dean’s list. Wong is a 2012 graduate of The Prout School in Wakefield and is the son of Pam Salimeno and grandson of Dr. Thomas “Tippy” Salimeno of Westerly.
Samuel Donahue of Pawcatuck was named to the academic honor roll for the spring term at Northfield Mount Hermon School, where he was a member of the Class of 2013.
Navy Seaman Paige S. Smith, daughter of Elisabeth A. Henson of Pawcatuck and Wendall C. Smith of Ledyard, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at the Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Smith is a 2009 graduate of Ledyard High School.
