  • Dick Anthony /THE EASY CHAIR A Sun series focusing on people you should know

    AGE 70 next month.

OCCUPATION Retired. I had many avocations but was in the fixed income investment world for most of my career.

    RESIDENCE Weekapaug.

BORN, RAISED & GREW UP IN Born and raised in Hartford, summered in Weekapaug (except for the years I spent in the military.)

RIGHT NOW I’M IN THE MIDDLE OF Organizing the 2014 Charity Classic at Shelter Harbor Golf Club for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Westerly Hospital Foundation, which is scheduled for June 2 at the Shelter Harbor Golf Club.

    PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT My children’s successes.

WHAT I’D LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR My professional and voluntary pursuits and for being involved in the building of the Shelter Harbor Golf Course.

ON MY BUCKET LIST Playing Augusta National Golf Club and others of the top 100 golf courses; traveling through Europe and the United States and visiting cities I haven’t been to before.

ALWAYS IN MY POCKET Cell phone and car keys.

WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP Didn’t have a clue.

EXPERIENCE THAT MOST INFLUENCED ME Definitely the U.S. Navy. A few harrowing experiences made me mature in a hurry.

FAVORITE AUTHOR Too many to choose just one.

I’M READING “Boys in the Boat,” by Daniel James Brown; “Freedom’s Forge, How American Business Produced Victory in World War II,” by Arthur Herman; and “Things That Matter,” by Charles Krauthammer.

FAVORITE SONG “Go Where You Want to Go,” by the Mamas and the Papas.

FAVORITE MOVIE “Caddy Shack,” “Uncle Buck,” and “MASH.”

    FAVORITE TV SHOW “Castle.”

FAVORITE PET Abbott, our black Lab.

FAVORITE MEAL A great steak, medium-rare.

    TRAIT I MOST ADMIRE Integrity.

    PET PEEVE Open dishonesty.

FAVORITE QUOTATION “A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have.” — Thomas Jefferson.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT OUR LITTLE CORNER OF THE WORLD Block Island Sound, Fishers Island Sound ... we have it all right here.

CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT A view of the ocean and breathing in the salt air.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT ME I can be very stubborn and passionate about certain topics.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED Was from my grandmother who told me I had many good attributes, that I couldn’t sit still and wait for opportunities but had to make them on my own. She said I had to sell myself and work hard and if I did, I would do just fine.

ADVICE I BEST LIKE TO GIVE Always be truthful.

IF I RULED THE WORLD I WOULD Insist that all children in the United States learn proper English and receive a thorough grounding in our history, then clean up the tax code and eliminate the many duplicate and overbearing regulations and sit back and watch the U.S. economy take off.

IF I WON THE LOTTERY, THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS Put the money in a charitable foundation earmarked for infrastructure and education.

I DRIVE A 2012 indigo blue Mercedes SUV

I WISH I DROVE A 2012 indigo blue Mercedes SUV.

IF I COULD HAVE DINNER AND A CONVERSATION WITH ANYONE IN THE WORLD I WOULD CHOOSE Charles Krauthammer, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson or Winston Churchill.
