Front Porch Chatter

Nancy Brochu of Westerly, pictured here with her son, Dr. Patrick Kenney, was more than proud to see the great write-up about her son in Kevin Lane’s “Society & Fashion” column of Ft. Lauderdale’s “Around Town Newspaper.” Kenney, a 1999 graduate of Westerly High School and a 2003 URI graduate, recently joined Midland Medical Center in Oakdale, Fla., and the medical director,l Dr. Noah Lee, was quoted in the piece, saying how “pleased” he was to welcome Kenney to the center which, Lee writes, prides itself “on treating every

patient in a competent and compassionate way.” The center is a dedicated medical practice focused on primary health care services as well as special health care and preventative services for HIV, Hepatitis and GLBT atients.

Kenney, who’s been caring for patients affected by HIV/AIDS since the beginning of his medical training and is eager to assist in the continued battle against the virus and educate his patients on its prevention, said; “What attracted me to join Midland Medical was not only its outstanding reputation as a provider to the GLBT community but also its attitude towards the patients they serve. Patients deserve providers that treat them with respect and dignity as if they were a member of the family and that is the core value I have vowed to maintain during my medical career. I look forward to being a part of this amazing team and most of all, providing the best medical care to this wonderful community.”

Kenney, also the son of James Kenney of Westerly, received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern Univ., completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Broward General Medical Center and a sub-specialty fellowship training in Infectious Disease and Tropical Medicine with the Univ. of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine at Tampa General Hospital. He is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and board eligible in Infectious Disease. According to Lane, Kenney “has served on several pharmacy and therapeutic committees and has trained in an antibiotic stewardship, has presented his research at the Infectious Disease Society of America and the World Health Organization, and has published in Infectious Disease in Clinical Practice. Outside of medicine, Dr. Kenney is an avid traveler and lover of languages. He is proficient in French, Spanish, and Italian. He hopes to combine his love for medicine and travel to better serve not only those in medical need abroad, but domestically as well.”
