Independence Day will be celebrated at Mystic Seaport, 75 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic, Conn., Saturday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A picnic on the Village Green, with hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, chowder, lobster rolls, desserts and beverages, will be held at noon followed by the children's parade at 1 p.m. and an old-fashioned spelling bee. An 1876 Independence Day ceremony and a concert by the Silver Cornet Band will also take place. All Independence Day celebrations and activities are included in admission; food costs are additional. The annual July 4 parade organized by the Stonington Historical Society will gather at 9:45 a.m. from the southwest corner of Wadawanuck Square, proceed to Cannon Square and back, where the Declaration of Independence will be read. This year's parade will honor local volunteers.

The 31st edition of the Groton 4th of July Parade will be held Saturday, July 4, at 10 a.m. This year's theme is "Many Heritages-One Community." The parade will move along Route 1 from Poquonnock Plains Park to the Groton Shopping Center at Drozdyk Drive. The reviewing stand will be in front of the Chelsea Groton Bank.
