HIGH SCHOOL

• Details for the Division II football playoffs have been released by the Rhode Island Interscholastic League.

Westerly, the No. 2 seed from II-A will host Toll Gate, the third-place team from II-B, Friday at 7 p.m.

The winner plays either South Kingstown (No. 1 IIB or Warwick Veterans (No. 4 II-A). Those two teams play Friday at SK starting at 6:30 p.m.

The other quarterfinal matchups are Cumberland (No. 4 II-B) at West Warwick on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Tolman (No. 3 II-A) at Cranston East (No. 2 II-B) on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The semifinals will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the higher seed. The finals are scheduled for Monday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. at Cranston Stadium.

ROAD RACING

• John Bigouette of Pawatuck topped the field in the Westerly Knights of Columbus 5K road race Sunday in Westerly.

Bigouette posted a time of 16 minutes, 32 seconds over the 3.1-mile course.

Becky Burke of Middletown, Conn. was the first female finisher in 19:29 in the field of 48 finishers

Gerah Ventresca was the top local female finisher running a 22:10.

Other local male finishers in top 25 were Bob Lane, Westerly (fourth, 18:24), Mark Burbelo, Westerly (fifth, 18:41), Don Banks, Pawcatuck (ninth, 20:31), Shawn Lacey, Westerly (11th, 20:57), David Rizzo, Ashaway (13th, 21:27), Joe Hughes, Westerly (14th, 21:39) and Brian Sposato, Westerly (15th, 21:45).

Local female finishers in the top 30 were Sarah Garvey, Westerly (17th, 22:12), Amber Lacey, Westerly (20th, 22:16), Melanie Diamanti, Pawcatuck (21st, 22:29) and Michaela Carrier (28th, 24:45).

Bobby Clark of Mystic ran a time of 28 minutes, 45 seconds as the top local finisher in the EBAC Fall Challenge 4.75-mile race Saturday in New London.

Brendan Atkins of Old Lyme won the race in 26:22.

Claire Leatham of Wyoming was the top local female runner taking 46th place among the 433 finishers in 33:50.

Melissa Perkins-Banas was the top female runner finishing 10th in 29:34.

Other local male runners in the top 50 were Alan Hall, Mystic (21st, 31:26), John Lamattina, Stonington (24th, 31:41), John Trahan, Mystic (26th, 32:12), Don Banks, Pawcatuck (29th, 32:22), Josh Harwell, Mystic (39th, 33:09), Steve Turner, Mystic (44th, 33:32) and William Adams, Westerly (47th, 3:52).

Other local female finishers in the top 100 were Ama Amdah, Westerly (68th, 36:03), Melanie Diamanti, Pawcatuck (72nd, 36:22), Jennifer Froling (83rd, 37:39) and Elizabeth Benoit, Mystic (89th, 38:05).

COLLEGE

Kelly Simons, a 2008 graduate of Westerly High, finished second in her division to earn a red ribbon at a Zone 1, Region 1 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association event on Saturday.

Kelly competed in the walk-trot division as a member of the University of Rhode Island Equestrian club team in the event hosted by the University of Connecticut.

Eleven colleges from Rhode Island and Connecticut competed with the top six riders in each division earning points for their finish.

BOWLING

Randy Morgan’s 295 and Joey Transue’s 772 were the high game and high series in the Greater Westerly Ten Pin League on Thursday at Alley Katz Bowling Center, Westerly.

Brad Sandlin had the high game (277) and high series (744) in the Merchants League Tuesday.

JUDO

• Dakota Cox placed in two weight classes in the boys’ age 9-12 division at Sunday’s Charles A. Chaves Memorial Judo Tournament in Danvers, Mass.

Cox, who is a member of the Westerly- Pawcatuck YMCA judo club (Kazoku Judo Dojo) finished first in the under 125 pound competition and third in the under-140.

Maxwell Betoncourt took first in the boys’ 9-12, under-73 division, and Brianna McPherson was first in the girls’ 5-6 lightweight competition.

Ransford Darby finished second in boys’ 9-12, under-80. Queenie Diaz was runner-up in the girls’ 9- 12 lightweight division; and Jared Neal was second in the boys’ 9-12, under-73 category.

BOBSLEDDING

• Westerly’s Michael Bradley finished fifth in a pair of four-men bobsled races in the America’s Cup competition Saturday and Sunday in Calgary, Canada.

Bradley teamed with Ben Fogel (Sandy, Utah), Avian Jordan (Lake Placid, N.Y.) and Derek Kresser (South Jordan, Utah) in both races.

The foursome had runs of 56.16 and 56.25 for a total time of 1:52.41 in Saturday’s race. Their time was slightly better on Sunday – 1:52.28 (55.94, 56.34).

U.S. teams came in first and second in both races.

The next stop on the America’s Cup tour is Lake Placid, N.Y., Nov. 20-23.
