ASHAWAY - A swift-moving fire destroyed a home at 76 Collins Road Saturday night.
Ashaway Fire Department Chief Michael Williams said the house, unoccupied at the time of the blaze, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene following several 911 calls at 11:30 p.m.
Firefighters from Ashaway, Bradford, Hope Valley and Dunn's Corners were on the scene for into the early morning hours and again this morning to investigate the cause of the blaze.
Williams said the resident of the home was notified and was on the scene Sunday morning. The owner of the house is listed as Robert Houle in Hopkinton tax assessment records. It is not clear whether he also lived in the house.
Only burning, smoking portions of the structure remained Sunday morning. The occupant's truck sustained heavy damage whenthe burning house collapsed onto it. Fire had melted the siding on a back storage building.
Investigators from the state and town were sifting through the ruins of the building to determine where the fire started.
This is the second fire in a week to destroy a home. A suspicious fire gutted a house on Canonchet Road in the Rockville area of Hopkinton.
Hopkinton police and the state fire marshal's office are investigating both fires.
