Statewide and locally, it was a low turnout in Tuesday’s primaries, with few critical races throughout Rhode Island.
But voters in Charlestown, Richmond and Exeter, did have a local election for the 39th state representative district currently held by longtime Rep. Joseph Scott of Exeter.
Rod Driver, is in a political race again, winning the Democratic primary. His challenger will be David Hathaway.
Results in the race: Rod Driver, of Richmond, 296; Larry Valencia of Richmond, 265; Stephen Antoni, of Richmond, 133 and Paul E. Picerne, of Exeter, 32.
On the Republican side: Joseph R. Arsenault of Richmond, 182 and winner David B. Hathaway of Exeter, 229.
Democrat Tracy Nelson Hay won the Democratic primary for Richmond Town Clerk. Hay will square off against Republican Paul H. Michaud for the paid position in the Nov. 4 election.
Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I. of Jamestown, was deemed the winner in the Democratic primary shortly after the polls closed at 9 p.m. Reed overwhelmingly defeated challenger Christopher Young of Providence.
Reed will face Westerly resident Republican Robert Tingle and Independent Kenneth Capalbo in the general election.
