Trail racing: Charlestown’s Hammett is top local finisher at Li’l Rhody Runaround

CHARLESTOWN — Jonathan Hammett of Charlestown was the top local finisher in the Li’l Rhody Runaround at Burlingame State Park on Sunday.

Hammett completed the 8-mile course in 49:12, good for third place. Eric Blake of West Hartford, Conn., was first in 47:54. Greg Hammet of Chesterfield, N.H., a former Chariho High runner, was second (48:54).

Elise Huysman of Pawcatuck was the top local female finisher, placing 36th in 1:02.56. Leslie O’Dell of Conway, N.H., was the first female runner across the line, finishing 15th (55:41).

The next four local male finishers were John Walker, Westerly (sixth, 50:24); Justin Bentley, Ashaway (seventh, 50:36); Tommy Bousquet, Westerly (eighth, 50:50); and Jeff Walker, Westerly (ninth, 51:27).

The next four local female finishers were Elizabeth Marchetti, Charlestown (56th, 1:08.03); Stacey Leitz, Westerly (66th, 1:10.54); Carol Ann Gray, Pawcatuck, (67th, 1:11.06); and Heather Alge, Hopkinton (70th, 1:11.22).

A total of 153 runners finished the race.
