Road racing: Walker sets all-time course record in McCoy Fun Run 5K

WESTERLY — Matthew Walker, a 2018 Westerly High graduate, set the all-time 5K course record in the Tom McCoy Fun Run Series on Wednesday, finishing in 16:07.

Walker, soon to be a University of New Hampshire freshman, broke his own course record of 16:21, which he ran last summer.

Keith McAteer was second, in 17:30. Colby Makin was third (19:59).

The top women’s finisher was Shara Bousquet (22:10), followed by Molly Cunningham (22:54) and Madison Lorello (24:02). There were 79 registered finishers in the 5K.

The top three boys in the children’s 1/3-mile run were Joseph Goldberg (2:48), Luke West (2:52) and Lucas Zabroski (3:00); the top three girls were Elia Reyes (2:51), Anna Murray (2:59) and Taylor Henley (3:04).

The McCoy Fun Runs take place each Wednesday in Misquamicut during the summer.
