WATERFORD — Ashaway’s Kyle James picked up his fifth victory of the season in the SK-Modified division at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl Sunday.

James topped the field in the second 40-lap SK-Modified feature of the day.

James moved into second with seven laps remaining and took the lead with five left passing Justin Albernaz of Rehoboth, Massachusetts. Albernaz led the first 30 laps of the race.

“It was all car,” James said in press release from the Speedbowl. “I had a great car and I was able to track down Albernaz. He was blocking me a few times at the end, but he was doing everything he could to win the race. I don’t think it will take too long for him to get his first win.”

James finished second in the first 40-lap feature of the day trailing only Rob Janovic Jr. of Waterford.

Pawcatuck’s Ryan Morgan placed second in the 30-lap Late Model race behind East Hampton, Connecticut’s Anthony Flannery. Mike Benevides of Westerly finished seventh. Richmond’s Dylan Cabral was eighth.

Rit Shawn of Westerly placed seventh in the 30-lap Sportsman event.

Corey Caddick was second in the second 25-lap X-Car feature and seventh in the first race. Charlestown’s Matt Westover was ninth in the second race.
