NECBL: Mystic season comes to an end with loss to Ocean State in postseason

SOUTH KINGSTOWN — Four Ocean State pitchers limited Mystic to just five hits as the Schooners season came to an end with a loss, 9-2, to the Waves in the New  Collegiate Baseball League playoffs Friday night.

Starter Nick Robinson (Rhode Island) pitched five innings allowing just one earned run to earn the win in the one-game playoff.

The game was tied at 2-2 before Ocean State, the No. 2 seed from the Southern Division, scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead.

Cullen Smith (East Tennessee) hit a two-run single and Ryan Ward had (Bryant) a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Garrett Hodges (Kennesaw State) also homered for the Waves.

Matthew O’Neill (Pennsylvania) finished 2 for 2 with an RBI for Mystic, the No. 3 seed from the Southern Division. Matt Geoffrion, who entered the game in the fifth, allowed four earned runs and took the loss.

Ocean State travels to Plymouth Sunday for the first game of the best-of-three semifinal series.
