College basketball: Hamelin, LaFrance Boyce playing well for Avery Point teams

GROTON — Jacee Hamelin, a Westerly High grad, played well as the UConn-Avery Point men’s basketball team split two home games this week.

Hamelin scored 20 points for the Pointers in a 70-66 loss to Springfield Tech on Tuesday, and followed with 22 points and eight assists to help the Pointers beat Ben Franklin, 82-71, on Thursday.

AP is 3-5 overall, 3-5 in NJCAA Region 21.

Meanwhile, Stonington High grad Tatyana LaFrance Boyce was a standout for the UCAP women’s team in its two home games.

LaFrance Boyce shot 6 for 9 from 3-point range and finished with 28 points to go with nine rebounds in the Pointers’ 102-59 win over Sprinfield Tech on Tuesday. On Thursday, she scored 23 points in the Pointers’ 108-62 non-region loss to Navy Prep.

AP is 6-3 overall, 3-0 in NJCAA Region 21.
