CENTRAL VILLAGE — Jen Paride pitched a one-hitter striking out 12 leading the Wheeler High softball team to a 6-0 out-of-division ECC victory against Plainfield Friday.
Plainfield’s only hit of the game came off the bat of their first batter, Cali Joslyn.
“It was a bullet right up the middle,” Wheeler coach Joe Cawley said.
Paride walked just one batter. The only other Panther to reach base came in the second inning after a dropped third strike.
“She had a dominant fastball and a pretty good changeup,” Cawley said. “The ump was calling low strikes and she kept the ball down. They couldn’t hit it.”
Paride, a junior transfer from Stonington, now has 22 strikeouts in 13 innings. She had 10 in a season-opening loss to the Morgan School when she allowed just one earned run.
Kylie Baker (2 for 4) had a RBI single in the first inning for Wheeler (1-1). Paride (2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs) drove in Samantha Muller in the third with a single. Muller had reached on a triple.
Micaela Bergel finished with two hits and a RBI, while Raven Houck drove in a pair of runs, scored twice and doubled.
It was the first game of the season for Plainfield.
Wheeler is off until April 22 when it travels to Tourtellotte Memorial for a 4 p.m. ECC-Small game.
