Softball: Wheeler ends season on high note, sweeping Putnam in doubleheader

PUTNAM, Conn. — Wheeler High closed the softball season with a pair of nonleague wins against Putnam, 13-2 and 7-2, on Monday.

Both games lasted five innings.

Kendra Perez struck out two and limited Putnam (0-18) to two hits in the first game. Sam Caster (2 for 3) doubled and drove in three runs. Julia Ahern (2 for 4) also finished with two RBIs. Nikki Collins was 2 for 2 with an RBI.

In the second game, Lanette Hernandez drove in a pair of runs, and Perez was 2 for 3 with an RBI. She also struck out six and gave up just two hits to earn the win.

Wheeler finished the season 4-16.
