UNCASVILLE — Stonington High finished with more shots, but the St. Bernard/Wheeler co-op team made more of theirs count to post a 16-12 boys lacrosse win in an ECC Division II game Saturday afternoon.

Wheeler student Scott Pion had five goals and four assists for the co-op, which had 23 shots to Stonington’s 28.

Pion got help from schoolmates Roland Long, who had four goals and one assist, and Zack Spiers, who scored once. St. Bernard’s Pat Brady, like Pion, had five goals and four assists.

The victory ended a two-game skid for the co-op (13-3, 6-2 Division II). Wheeler’s Danny Schroeder made 12 saves in goal.

The Bears (7-8, 3-4) had a long list of players in the scoring column. Jake Mueller finished with three goals and one assist, Lucian Kronholm had two goals and one assist, Max Mueller and Marco Tedeschi each scored twice, Aaron Lahah and Sean Peglow had a goal and two assists apiece, and Jeff DeLapp scored once.

Stonington goalie Ben Huynh made six saves.

SB/Wheeler looks forward to the ECC tournament semifinals on Tuesday (pairings have not been announced). Games are scheduled for 5 and 7:30 p.m. at Stonington.

The Bears host Xavier (7-7) on Monday at 7 p.m.
