NORTH STONINGTON — The Wheeler High girls volleyball team had two representatives on the ECC Division III All-Star team.
Nikki Collins, a senior outside hitter, and Sarah Spracklin, a junior middle hitter, were both honorable-mention selections.
The two were “far and away our leading hitters,” Lions coach Will Johnson said.
Collins finished with 123 kills for Wheeler, which went 9-13 and reached the Class S state tournament after failing to qualify in 2016. Collins’ kills were 29 percent of the team’s total. Her match high was 11, which she did twice. She also had 53 aces and 146 digs for the season.
Spracklin had 148 kills, which were 34 percent of the team’s total. Her match high was 14 in a 3-1 win over Ellis Tech on Sept. 25. She finished with 53 aces and 100 digs.
Junior Lanette Hernandez won the team’s sportsmanship award, and junior Valerie Knowles was the scholar-athlete award winner.
