WOODSTOCK — Woodstock Academy limited Wheeler High to 18 points in the second half and ended the Lions season, 76-41, in an ECC Division II tournament boys basketball play-in game on Wednesday.
Tenth-seeded Wheeler led 18-15 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 31-23 at the half.
“We played a real good first half, moved the ball against their zone and press,” Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said. “In the second quarter, they played a little more man (defense) and we couldn’t finish inside.
“In the second half, their strength took over and they hurt us inside.”
Ian Spracklin led Wheeler with 14 points and Bower Baker had 11. Clayton Carini added eight.
Wheeler, which started four sophomores at various points during the season, finished 2-19.
“The kids played their butts off. The effort was tremendous. We can see improvement and we will get back after it next season,” Cobleigh said.
Woodstock (9-12), the seventh seed, travels to No. 2 Plainfield on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal game.
