NORTH STONINGTON — Ian Spracklin scored 41 points and tied a school record with eight 3-pointers, but Wheeler High fell to Griswold, 85-67, in an ECC Division III boys basketball game Friday night.
Spracklin now shares the single-game record for 3-pointers with Conor Gleason, who achieved the feat in 2009.
“It all started in the second quarter when he had four 3s and a 2-pointer,” Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said. “He really took it hard to the basket and right after that things opened up for him. They had been playing him loose, but they tightened it up and he drove. He was just unconscious.”
Spracklin, a 6-3 sophomore forward, is averaging 13.9 points per game.
“None of the shots were forced. Most of his 3s were inside-outside kickouts,” Cobleigh said.
Wheeler (2-15, 0-10 Division III) trailed 47-32 at the half.
Chris Caisse added nine points for the Lions.
Max Gregory led Griswold (10-7, 5-5) with 23 points, including three 3-pointers.
Wheeler next travels to Lyman on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game.
