Boys basketball: Big second quarter lifts streaking Panthers past Lions

PLAINFIELD — Plainfield pulled away with a big second quarter and defeated Wheeler High, 78-37, in an ECC Division III boys basketball game Tuesday.

The Panthers (13-4, 10-0 Division III) have won 10 in a row.

“They are very good,” Lions coach Neal Cobleigh said. “They’re big, fast, strong and can shoot.”

Chris Peasley, a 6-foot-5 center, led Plainfield with 24 points on 12 field goals.

The Panthers led 15-9 after the first quarter. In the second, they outscored Wheeler 25-3 for a 40-12 halftime lead. They finished with nine 3-pointers.

Clayton Carini hit three 3s and scored 12 points for Wheeler (2-14, 0-9). Bowen Baker had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.

The Lions next host Griswold on Friday at 7 p.m.
