Boys basketball: Putnam uses big second quarter to down Wheeler

NORTH STONINGTON — Putnam scored 21 points in the fourth quarter and topped Wheeler High, 55-43, in a nonleague boys basketball game Thursday night.

Putnam (8-9) led 25-13 at the half. The Clippers qualified for the state tournament with the win.

Wheeler coach Neal Cobleigh said the Lions played one of their better games of the season, especially rebounding.

Bowen Baker led the team with 17 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Ian Spracklin scored 14. Baker also led the team in rebounds with seven and Spracklin had six.

Wheeler (2-17) next hosts Windham on Friday night at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
