Postseason roundup: Wheeler softball’s Collins, Perez earn honorable mentions

NORTH STONINGTON — Wheeler High seniors Nikki Collins and Kendra Perez earned ECC Division III honorable-mention recognition in softball this season.

Collins led the team in batting average (.435), hits (20) and runs scored (12). She had a home run and doubled six times.

Collins played shortstop most of the season.

Perez, the team’s top pitcher, hit .314 with three doubles. She finished with 16 hits as the Lions’ leadoff batter most of the season.

In the circle, she had an ERA of 4.41 and struck out 99 batters in 73 innings. Almost half the runs scored off her were unearned.

Perez also received the sportsmanship and scholar-athlete awards for the Lions.

Wheeler finished the season 4-16 overall and 0-12 in the league.
