Westerly finished 17-11 last season, but put together a run in the playoffs before losing in the Division II title series.
“We just made the plays today and we pitched well. We didn’t walk many and we got out of a couple of big situations in the sixth and seventh,” Cahoone said. “We were 4 for 4 on stolen bases and we had two nice sacrifices.”
The Bulldogs finished with three hits — singles by John Hackett, Cam Newell and Jake Garro. Kyle Gencarelli, Brenton Rayner and Garro all contributed an RBI each.
Westerly trailed 5-2, but scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and another in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game before the rain started.
“Their (Central’s) infield defense was unbelievable today,” Cahoone said.
Rayner started the game and pitched two innings allowing three earned runs. Anthony Garro, Jake Garro, Hackett and Gencarelli also pitched for the Bulldogs.
Westerly opens the Division II-South season Tuesday hosting Tiverton at 4 p.m.
