Outlook: “Rebuilding year” is not a phrase coaches generally use or even like to hear but Coach Korytkowski it will be just that for the Bulldogs.
The loss of its two best golfers in Gregg Garceau (first-team All-State) and Austin Cilley(second-team All-Division) left a sizable hole at the top of the lineup.
“Fortunately for us a lot of teams lost a lot to graduation too,” Korytkowksi said. “The only good things about this rebuilding year is that everyone is rebuilding with us, so we should still compete in our division.”
Kuzmic, along with Cilley and Garceau, qualified for the state tournament as individuals in 2013 and is poised to take over the No. 1 spot in his sophomore season.
“I expect him to shoot some games in the low 40s and even the high 30s,” Korytkowski said. “His game has just improved all around.”
Kuzmic had a 49.1 average in 11 nine-hole rounds in 2013 but Korytkowski said his state average was in the 46 range.
Luzzi (47.3) and DeSarro (47.7), who both gained significant varsity experience in 2013, will likely fill out the second and third spots with the freshman Reid sliding into four. Korytkowski said the last two varsity spots are wide open and any of the remaining six players could grab one.
Coach’s take: “I think we’re definitely a playoff team. Having three players come back who saw a lot of playing time, I’d truly be disappointed if we didn’t make the playoffs.
“We may not be vying for the top team in the division, but I certainly don’t think the No. 2 spot is out of the question.”
