WESTERLY — Westerly High will take on Division I Cranston East in the boys basketball state tournament.
Westerly is the No. 9 seed, while Cranston East is No. 8. The game will be played Thursday at North Kingstown at 7:30 p.m.
Top-seeded Bishop Hendricken will play Classical or East Providence in the first game at NK at 5:30 p.m. Classical and East Providence play on Tuesday to determine the 16th and final spot in the tournament.
The winner of the Westerly vs. Cranston East game will play Hendricken, Classical or East Providence in the quarterfinals at CCRI-Warwick on Sunday.
Westerly is 17-7. The Bulldogs lost to Narragansett, 62-43, in the Division II semifinals. Narragansett beat East Greenwich for the Division II title on Sunday.
Cranston East (16-7) finished 13-5 in Division I-Central before losing to La Salle, 62-56, in the Division I quarterfinals. After starting the season 1-3, the Thunderbolt finished 15-4. Two of those losses were to D-I champion Mount Pleasant and runner-up Hendricken.
