WESTERLY — Four Westerly High runners earned second-team All-State honors on the 4x800 relay team this season.
Ryan Holloway, Matthew Walker, Jonathan Turano and John Walker combined for the second-place finish at the state meet.
East Greenwich was the only relay team to finish ahead of the Bulldogs. EG went on to win the New England championship and finished third in the Championship race at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor in a state- and New England-record time.
Holloway just missed third-team All-State in the 400. He was fourth in the race, just .28 seconds from third and .83 seconds from second. The top three runners earn All-State.
Holloway, a senior, was first-team All-Class B in the 800. He also ran on the winning 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams at the Class B meet to earn first-team honors.
Others on the Class B 4x800 relay team were Turano, John Walker and Sam Lutzel. The other three runners on the Class B 4x400 team were Zach Menard, Aaron Tallardy and Rocco Cillino.
Matthew Walker, who will continue his running career at the University of New Hampshire, was second-team Class B in the 3,000 and third team in the 1,500. He was first-team Southern Division in the 3,000.
Holloway, Menard, Tallardy and Cillino were also second-team Southern Division in the 4x400 relay.
Holloway, Matthew Walker, Turano and Lutzel were second-team Southern Division in the 4x800.
Westerly finished 3-5-1 in the Southern Division dual-meet season. The Bulldogs were seventh at the Southern Division meet, fourth at Class B and 13th at states.
