Girls track: Burr finishes 15th in steeplechase at nationals



GREENSBORO, N.C. — Westerly High’s Randi Burr finished 15th in the 2,000-meter steeplechase at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor on Saturday.

Burr, a senior, covered the distance in 7:10.65. The winning time was 6:38.79 by Taylor Ewert, a sophomore from Beaver Creek, Ohio.

The event includes five barriers on each lap. One of the barriers is a water jump.

On Sunday, Liz Letizio, Sydney Federico, Helena Hall-Thomson and Burr will be competing in the Emerging Elite distance medley relay.

Westerly’s John Walker, Zach Menard, Ryan Holloway and Matt Walker will also be running in the boys Emerging Elite distance medley relay.

Stonington sophomore Rhys Hammond will be running in the Emerging Elite 800 on Sunday.
