Girls track: Westerly takes second in 4x800 relay at New England championships



DURHAM, N.H. — Westerly High’s 4x800 relay team finished second in the 73rd annual New England outdoor track championships at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday.

Jaime Murray, Helena Hall-Thomsen, Liz Letizio and Randi Burr combined for a time of 9:20.59. Greenwich High of Connecticut won the event in 9:17.42.

Megan Albamonti, the Rhode Island state champion, placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 119-11. She missed All-New England by one place. Albamonti is a junior and only three other underclassmen finished ahead of her. Victoria Carreiro was 20th in the event (106-11).

Albamonti and Carreiro both play softball and throw in a limited number of meets.

Burr finished eighth in the 3,200 (11:10.76), while Sydney Federico placed 10th in the 200 (26.06).

Caelan Holdredge was 18th in the 300 hurdles (48.30), and Theresa Spear finished 24th in the discus (98-10).
