GROTON — Collin Esquirol won the 100 backstroke, but the Stonington/Ledyard boys’ swimming team lost to Fitch/St. Bernard 85-84 in an ECC meet Thursday night.
Esquirol, a Stonington High swimmer, won his event with a time of 1 minute, 5.3 seconds.
He also finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:21.25). He was part of the second-place 200 freestyle relay (1:43.45) and the second-place 200 medley relay (1:55.84).
Stonington’s John Moody took second in the 50 freestyle (24.57) and the 100 freestyle (56.65). He was also part of the first-place 400 freestyle relay (3:55.97) and the 200 medley relay.
Sarah Morrison earned a second in the 100 backstroke (1:08.10). She was also on the third-place 200 medley relay (2:04.79) and the third-place 400 freestyle relay (4:00.74).
Alex Green placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:40.18) and four in the 200 freestyle (2:09.76). He was also on the third-place 400 free relay.
Gabby Fabian contributed a third place in the 100 butterfly (1:07.72) and was on the third-place 200 medley relay.
Alex Orf took fourth in the 50 freestyle (26.03) and the 100 backstroke (1:12.98). He was on the winning 400 free relay and the third-place 200 medley relay.
Ruby Robinson finished fourth in the 500 freestyle (6:11.36) and the 100 breaststroke (1:22.56). She swan on the third-place 400 free relay.
Matthew Planchon took fifth in the 500 freestyle (6:12.85) and sixth in the 200 freestyle (2:16.50).
Fitch/St. Bernard improved to 2-0 overall and in the ECC.
Ledyard-Stonington (2-1, 1-1 ECC) travels to Waterford Friday for a 3:30 p.m. meet.

MADISON, Conn. — Freshman Grace McCarthy was third all-around ,but Stonington still lost Thursday’s non-league meet handily.
McCarthy placed sixth in the vault (8.10), was eighth in the bars (6.30), eighth in the beam (6.90) and fourth on the floor (7.95) and scored 29.25 all-around in her third-place effort.
Abbey Contino was fourth all-around with a 27.90. She scored 8.10 in the vault (sixth), 6.70 in the bars (seventh), 5.70 in the beam (11th0 and 7.40 on the floor (fifth).
Megan Roberts was fifth all-around with a 24.10. She scored 8.00 in the vault (eighth), 6.80 on the floor (ninth), 6.30 in the beam (ninth) and 3.00 in the bars (10th).
Daniel Hand won each event by at least 2.6 points.
The Bears (0-4) host Windham Monday at 6:30 p.m.
