STONINGTON — Vanessa Benjamin scored four goals as the Stonington High girls soccer team defeated Putnam, 8-0, in an ECC out-of-division game Tuesday.
Benjamin scored all her goals in the second half, including three in the first few minutes.
Stonington (1-1) only led 1-0 at the half.
“Their goalie was phenomenal and made a lot of great saves, especially in the first half,” Stonington coach Jennifer Solomon said. “But after those three goals, it took off that weight and we played very good soccer.”
Benjamin is a first-year player for the Bears. Last year she was a member of the Oakwood Soccer Club’s academy team, but gave that up to play with the Bears.
The four goals are one short of the school record of five established by Lindsey Trubia in 2003.
Five other Stonington players have scored four goals in a game, including Solomon.
Jessica Detwiler, Rachel Sabbadini, Holly Foster and Corrine Steeno also scored for the Bears.
Stonington next travels to New London on Friday for a 3:45 p.m. game.
