MANCHESTER, Conn. — Stonington High’s Shane Smith is fourth after the first day of the decathlon at Manchester High Tuesday.
Smith has 2,886 points through the first five events. The event continues Wednesday with five more events. Lyman Hall’s Tylor Seamans leads with 3,111 points.
Smith finished 25th in the 100 (12.21), 20th in the 400 (55.36). tied for eighth in the high jump (5-6), 11th in the long jump (18-10.5) and third in the shot put (40-8.75).
The five events scheduled for Wednesday are the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500.
Smith should score well in the pole vault and the hurdles. He was the ECC pole vault champion and finished fifth in the event at the Class M meet. He was third in the 300 hurdles at the Class M meet.
Smith finished fifth in the decathlon last season.
