Girls basketball: Chariho to meet Moses Brown on Wednesday in state tournament opener

WOOD RIVER JCT. — Chariho High faces Division I runner-up Moses Brown in the girls state basketball tournament on Wednesday.

The game will be played at Bay View Academy in Riverside at 5:30 p.m. The 15th-seeded Chargers are 16-8 after losing to Scituate in the Division II quarterfinals, 58-43, last week. Scituate lost in the D-II finals to Johnston, 69-49.

Second-seeded Moses Brown is 16-5. The Quakers finished 14-4 during the regular season before beating Cranston West and South Kingstown in the D-I playoffs.

Moses Brown lost to La Salle Academy, 58-42, in the D-I title game.

No. 7 Wheeler and No. 10 Juanita Sanchez will play in the second game at North Kingstown at 7:30 p.m. The winners at North Kingstown will meet in the quarterfinals at CCRI-Warwick on Saturday.
