WESTERLY — Chariho High split its Southern Division girls cross country opener on Tuesday against two of the traditional league powers.
Chariho lost to North Kingstown, 17-42, but defeated Westerly, 23-42, at Bradford Preserve. North Kingstown beat Chariho, 24-35.
Chariho’s Elizabeth LaCroix finished second in a time of 20:58 on the 3.1-mile course. She trailed North Kingtown’s Lily Nunnery (20:49) by nine seconds.
Chariho’s Abby Cole finished third (21:10) and freshman Anna LaCroix was seventh (21:49).
Chariho’s other scorers were Julia Fortune (19th, 23:50) and Paige Grissom (22nd, 25:06).
Chariho hosts Rogers, Exeter-West Greenwich and West Warwick on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
