Boys cross country: Champlin places third, Chargers split Southern Division tri-meet

WESTERLY — Chariho High split its Southern Division boys cross country opener Tuesday at Bradford Preserve.

Chariho defeated Westerly, 23-32, but lost to North Kingstown, 20-38. Chariho and North are annually among the top teams in the division.

Tim Champlin was the first Chariho runner across the line, placing third in 17:46 on the 3.1-mile course.

James Penhallow was fifth in 18:11. The other Chariho scorers were C.J. Elwell (ninth, 18:39); Luke Bouchard (13th, 18:59); and Simon Manlove (20th, 19:36).

Chariho next hosts Rogers, Exeter-West Greenwich and West Warwick on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
