RICHMOND — A local woman is facing charges after police said she struck a man in the back of the head with a wooden two-by-four during an argument. The police said they also seized marijuana seedlings from her home.
The woman, Katie Chamberlain, 30, of 224 Kingstown Road, was charged on Aug. 22 with domestic assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana. She was arraigned in Fourth Division District Court the following day and was later released on bond, according to Rhode Island judicial records.
Police said Tuesday that the charges stemmed from an investigation into an incident at Chamberlain’s home at about 9:30 p.m. According to a report, a man walked into the police station that night with an injury to the back of his head. An investigation determined that the man and Chamberlain were arguing and that she had struck him with the piece of lumber, the police said.
The injuries were not life-threatening, police said, and the victim was expected to make a full recovery.
While investigating the complaint, officers found eight marijuana plants that were being cultivated and confiscated them as evidence.
Chamberlain has not entered a plea. She is due in Washington County Superior Court on Oct. 12 for a felony screening.
