One injured after truck carrying 45,000 pounds of fish rolls over on I-95

STONINGTON — Motorist along I-95 North were met with delays through the morning after a truck carrying 45,000 pounds of raw fish rolled over along the median between exits 91 and 92, spilling its cargo in the process.

Preliminary reports indicate the driver lost control around 5:15 a.m. and went off the median side of the highway. The driver, who was not identified, was treated for minor injuries and taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

Police said the crash initially closed all northbound lanes as the rollover caused the truck’s cargo to spill onto the highway. A vacuum truck used in environmental cleanups was called in to remove the fish from the roadway.

Emergency officials quickly worked to reopen the right lane, but the left travel lane remained closed through much of the morning, reopening after 10 a.m. according to Connecticut Department of Transportation alerts.
