STONINGTON — A morning car fire along Interstate 95 South was quickly extinguished, but the location and timing has led to delays during the morning commute.
Volunteers with the Wequetequock Fire Department, assisted by other area agencies, responded to the call for a possible car fire around 8 a.m. The fire, which started in an SUV that had pulled over just south of the Exit 91 onramp, was quickly extinguished.
No injuries were reported. The exact cause of the fire was not immediately available.
The blaze caused an initial stoppage on the highway, although all lanes were reopened quickly. As of 8:50 a.m., all firefighters had cleared from the scene, but traffic remained slow moving and additional delays were anticipated through the morning commute.
