Bradford man facing DUI charges after one-car crash in Pawcatuck

STONINGTON — A Bradford man is facing DUI charges after veering off Taugwonk Road and damaging his car on Monday evening.

Ronald P. St. Thomas, 62, of 87B Woody Hill Road, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right. He was released on a $600 bond, police said, and is due in New London Superior Court for arraignment on Nov. 22.

Stonington police, fire and ambulance personnel were called to the area of 410 Taugawonk Road, just north of the entrance to the Stonington Country Club, around 6 p.m. with reports of a one-car crash. Police said St. Thomas, who was walking along the road a short distance away, said someone tried to pass him and he veered off the road to avoid contact. The car sustained moderate damage and St. Thomas suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention, a police report said.

A police report on the incident indicates officers detected an odor of alcohol and St. Thomas was given a field sobriety test before being taken into custody.
