AK-47 rifle stolen from home in Portsmouth, R.I.

PORTSMOUTH — Police said they were concerned about the recent theft of a semi-automatic rifle, given “what's going on in the world today.” Portsmouth police told The Newport Daily News that the weapon, an AK-47, was reported stolen from a home in town Tuesday, but may have been taken anytime within the past couple of months because the house is undergoing renovations.

Nine empty magazines for the firearm also were taken, police said, along with a television and video game console. The word “Sasha” is engraved on the wood fore grip of the weapon.

Anyone with information about the stolen gun is asked to contact police. The police said they had not received any threats of violence related to the missing weapon.
