Dunn’s Corners Community Church

WESTERLY — This Second Sunday in Advent, Dec. 10, we welcome everyone to Worship at 8 and 10 a.m. Our preacher, The Reverend Dr. Wayne Eberly’s sermon is “Comfort,” from Isaiah 40:1-11, “Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.” Andrew Wallace, Director of Music and Arts Ministry and Grace Urrico, organist/pianist lead in music. The instrumentalist is Emily Thomsen, flute.

Kathy Koziol and Andy Wallace offer a duet at 8 a.m. Worship, “Peace, Peace” arr. Bock. The Chancel Choir sings at 10 a.m. Worship:  Anthem: “Goin’ to Bethlehem” arr. Althouse.

At 10 a.m. Worship the “Living Nativity” will be presented by our youth with narration, and everyone joins in singing Christmas Carols.

Sign language interpretation provided at the 10 a.m. Worship Service. There is a cry room available for parents who have infants or toddlers. There is a separate room for infants and toddlers overseen by a professional attendant at 10 a.m.

Join us on Monday, Dec. 11, for an evening of Christmas Caroling. Come and meet at the church at 6 p.m. to drive to mutually agreed to destinations.

Teen Time: All youth in grades 6 through 12 may join in for “Teen Time” on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m., led by Michael Walton, youth ministries coordinator. Babcock Presbyterian Church

ASHAWAY— We invite you this week to our Sunday morning worship service led by the Rev. Dr. Marilyn McNaughton beginning at 9:30 a.m. Her sermon will be based on passages from Isaiah 40:1-11 and Matthew 1:1-8. Sunday School for children, teens and adults will be in session from 11:15 a.m. through noon.

The community “Holiday Stroll” will be held Saturday, Dec.9. Shop for unique holiday gifts and purchase a plate of festive cookies or make a mission donation from 9 a.m, until 2 p.m.  Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Pleasant Street Baptist Church

WESTERLY — Join us for Church School for all ages and New Life classes starting at 9:30 a.m., with church service following promptly at 10:45 a.m. This week’s sermon “While You Wait You Might...,” is taken from scripture in the book of Mark 1:1-8.

Prayer and Bible study on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.; all are welcome to attend. It is a chance for discussion and deeper understanding of God’s Word.

Calvary Episcopal Church

STONINGTON — All are invited to join for traditional Episcopal worship each Sunday. At 8 a.m., there is a spoken Holy Eucharist, Rite I service. At 10 a.m., featured is a Choral Holy Eucharist, Rite II. A variety of choirs and musical ensembles are featured. Nursery care is available; children pre-K through junior high go to Sunday School at 10 a.m. and join back in church for Holy Communion.

The church, at 27 Church St., is involved in local missions such as the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. There are adult education and enrichment programs that draw church members from throughout New London County and the greater Westerly area.

Second Baptist Church of North Stonington

NORTH STONINGTON — Second Baptist Church of North Stonington is an independent, conservative, evangelical Baptist church. The Sunday morning service begin at 10 a.m. with Christmas hymns of worship. This Sunday our children will present a Christmas Play titled “The Really, Really, Really Good News,” during the morning service.

Our Sunday evening service begins at 6 p.m. with a hymn sing, testimonies and a time of prayer. Pastor Dave will deliver a message of faith titled “Micah and His Message,” from Micah 1-7.

Trinity Lutheran Church and Preschool

Shannock Baptist Church

SHANNOCK — The Shannock Baptist church, an independent Baptist Church, meets each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for Sunday school for all ages ; preschool through adult and at 11 a.m. for our regular service. The Sunday night service begins at 6 p.m. There is also a Wednesday night service at 7 p.m. for bible study and prayer.

Church of theHoly Spirit

CHARLESTOWN — Led by the Rev. Eileen Lindeman, Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated Sundays at 9:30 a.m.

On Thursdays, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., there is an Adult Education Meeting, which features discussion of the current book selection.

The third Saturday of the month, from 8 to 10 a.m., there is a “Pancakes with a Purpose Breakfast” mission with three other local parishes. Proceeds are donated to Family Housing Support.

On the second Saturday of the month, from 10 a.m. to noon, there is a “Faith Sharing” with potluck lunch. Some of the topics have been “grief; getting to know Jesus; outreach to the community” and always “how do we live our faith.” The church is located at 4150 Old Post Road. Faith Bible Chapel

WESTERLY — Sunday worship service begins at 10:30 a.m., where the praise and worship team will open and close the service with contemporary, Christian music. Children’s Sunday School and Nursery are also available at that time. A time of praise and prayer takes place every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The Faith Bible Chapel’s MOM’s Group will meet the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, September through May. Awana for children ages 3 through sixth grade meets on the first, second and third Fridays of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Faith Bible Chapel is a nondenominational, Christian church located at 115 Ashaway Road. Congregational Church, United, UCC

PAWCATUCK — Our Advent journey continues this week as we consider the shepherds and their role in the Christmas story. The shepherds remind us of all those people we encounter every day doing those jobs central to our lives and yet easily overlooked. They remind us too of all who work long hours for little pay, who struggle to balance the budget and still have time with loved ones. The shepherds are all the unsung heroes of everyday life. Join us as we light the shepherd candle in honor of them. 

Storybooks, coloring sheets and a playroom adjacent to the sanctuary if children would rather remain closer to family, or they may participate in planned activities in the classroom. Home study Sunday School materials available on-line and at the church as a part of our Sabbath Circles Family Ministries program.

Everyone is invited to a Community Christmas Carol sing on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m., in Wilcox Park by the Christmas Tree, sponsored by the Westerly-Pawcatuck Clergy Association. Join us for a half hour of song and Christmas spirit in the midst of this wonderful community we call home.  

Is the holiday season a tough time of year for you?  It is for many people as memories of Christmas past and people no longer in our lives keep the joy of Christmas at a distance, so consider joining us for the Blue Christmas Harvest Table. We will be gathering around the table for a simple meal with fellowship as well as prayer, reflection and mutual support for the burdens we carry, heavier still this time of year.

Christ Church

WESTERLY — Worship at Christ Church begins with the Saturday at 5 p.m., Rite I Holy Eucharist, said service; Sunday at 7:30 a.m, Rite I Holy Eucharist, said service; Sunday at 9 a.m., Rite II Choral Eucharist; and Sunday at 11 a.m., Rite II with incense and children’s homily. Nursery care is provided from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday School Classes will be held at 10:15 a.m. The Holy Eucharist will also be celebrated on Wednesday at 7 and 10 a.m., with Bible study following the 10 a.m. service.

Our annual Christmas Bazaar is tomorrow, Saturday, Dec.9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Luncheon, featuring homemade soups, salads, desserts, will be served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., for $10.  A “child-friendly” hot dog lunch will be available for $5. The Bazaar will feature fine crafts, hand-knitted items, boxwood trees, Attic Treasures, tag sale, books, fair trade items, jewelry, Children's Room, homemade holiday baked goods, RADA knives, poinsettias, thaw & heat homemade casseroles, soups, meatballs, and a visit from Santa.  A free door prize drawing will take place at 10 a.m.– must be present to win. Come and join the fun.   

The Living Supplies Closet is open on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon. Located in basement of Christ Church, the “Closet” provides local residents in need with the opportunity to obtain items that cannot be purchased with government assistance. Donations of items or cash are always needed and greatly appreciated.

Central Baptist Church

WESTERLY — Join us Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for Pastor Cal Lord’s message “The Gift of Authentic Peace,” this Sunday at our 10:30 AM worship service. Stay after worship for coffee and fellowship. Our building is handicapped accessible. We offer a Christian education program for children from nursery age through the seventh grade during our worship hour. All children are welcome to join.

On Sunday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m., Central Baptist and host of choirs from area churches will present the Christmas Cantata “Invitation to a Miracle,” here in our sanctuary. This event is free and open to the public.

WESTERLY — The church meets for worship every Sunday at the Tower Street School Community Center, 93 Tower St. Fellowship. The dress is casual and worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. Traditional Christian beliefs are taught from the Holy Bible and all are welcome. The church is especially open to people seeking to know God or trying to return to Him.

Children of all ages worship with their families until 10:45 a.m., and then children go to their own Bible study classes, where there is a snack and learn the many stories of the Bible.

CHARLESTOWN — The Christmas Eve worship services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 9:30 a.m. There will be three worship services on Sunday evening: Family Service at 3 p.m., Choir and Carols at 4:30 p.m. and Candlelight Carols at 6 p.m.
