Babcock Presbyterian Church

ASHAWAY— We invite you this week to our Sunday morning worship service led by the Rev. Dr. Marilyn McNaughton beginning at 9:30 a.m. Her sermon will be based on passages from Isaiah 64:1-9 and Matthew 13:24-37. Sunday School for children, teens and adults will be in session from 11:15 a.m. through noon.

The community “Holiday Stroll” will be held Saturday, Dec.9. Shop for unique holiday gifts and purchase a plate of festive cookies or make a mission donation from 9 a.m, until 2 p.m.  Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Pleasant Street Baptist Church

WESTERLY — Join us for Church School for all ages and New Life classes starting at 9:30 a.m., with church service following promptly at 10:45 a.m. This week’s sermon “Time Draws Near,” is taken from  scripture in the book of Romans 13:11-14.

Calvary Episcopal Church

STONINGTON — All are invited to join for traditional Episcopal worship each Sunday. At 8 a.m., there is a spoken Holy Eucharist, Rite I service. At 10 a.m., featured is a Choral Holy Eucharist, Rite II. A variety of choirs and musical ensembles are featured. Nursery care is available; children pre-K through junior high go to Sunday School at 10 a.m. and join back in church for Holy Communion.

The church, at 27 Church St., is involved in local missions such as the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. There are adult education and enrichment programs that draw church members from throughout New London County and the greater Westerly area.

Second Baptist Church of North Stonington

NORTH STONINGTON — Second Baptist Church of North Stonington is an independent, conservative, evangelical Baptist church. The Sunday morning service begin at 10 a.m. with hymns of worship, special music and a children’s moment. Rev. David Jordan will continue sharing in his series on faith from the book Hebrews 11:32-35 titled “Faith Conquering Through God.”

Our Sunday evening service begins at 6 p.m. with a hymn sing, testimonies and a time of prayer. Pastor Dave will deliver a message of faith titled “The Coming King” from Psalm 2.

Shannock Baptist Church

SHANNOCK — The Shannock Baptist church, an independent Baptist Church, meets each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for Sunday school for all ages ; preschool through adult and at 11 a.m. for our regular service. Church of theHoly Spirit

CHARLESTOWN — Led by the Rev. Eileen Lindeman, Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated Sundays at 9:30 a.m.

On Thursdays, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., there is an Adult Education Meeting, which features discussion of the current book selection.

The third Saturday of the month, from 8 to 10 a.m., there is a “Pancakes with a Purpose Breakfast” mission with three other local parishes. Proceeds are donated to Family Housing Support.

On the second Saturday of the month, from 10 a.m. to noon, there is a “Faith Sharing” with potluck lunch. Faith Bible Chapel

WESTERLY — Sunday worship service begins at 10:30 a.m., where the praise and worship team will open and close the service with contemporary, Christian music. PAWCATUCK — Welcome to Advent. Join us this Sunday as we begin our preparations to welcome the Christ Child into our midst on Christmas Eve. This year our focus will be the people of the Christmas story since it is in their presence that we find ourselves. This First Sunday of Advent we will consider the prophets of Jesus’ time and our own. In particular we will reflect on Isaiah 9 as we consider how we are “stumbling toward the light” with every step.

It’s bazaar time at UCC Westerly. Our annual Christmas Bazaar will be on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  All your favorites return, like the Gift Baskets (over 200 this year), the Christmas Tea, SERRV Gifts, the Nostalgia Boutique, Treasures from the Sea, the Bake Room, Children’s Shopping and the Hallway of Greens and much more!  Come see for yourself why this Bazaar is considered one of the best in the area. 

Storybooks, coloring sheets and a playroom adjacent to the sanctuary if children would rather remain closer to family, or they may participate in planned activities in the classroom. Christ Church

WESTERLY — Worship at Christ Church begins with the Saturday at 5 p.m., Rite I Holy Eucharist, said service; Sunday at 7:30 a.m, Rite I Holy Eucharist, said service; Sunday at 9 a.m., Rite II Choral Eucharist; and Sunday at 11 a.m., Rite II with incense and children’s homily. Nursery care is provided from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday School Classes will be held at 10:15 a.m. The Holy Eucharist will also be celebrated on Wednesday at 7 and 10 a.m., with Bible study following the 10 a.m. service.

Please join us on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m.,for our annual Festival of Lessons and Carols for Advent. The service will feature choral music by the Choir of Christ Church, George Kent, organist and choirmaster, congregational singing of carols and hymns, and the reading of the lessons in anticipation of the birth of the Christ child. The lessons, read by parish members and lay leaders from the community, recount the ancient prophecies and the joy of Christ coming into the world. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and childcare is provided in the nursery. A reception in the Parish Hall follows the service. All are welcome.

Don’t miss our annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec.9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Luncheon, featuring homemade soups, salads, desserts, will be served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., for $10.  A “child-friendly” hot dog lunch will be available for $5. The Bazaar will feature fine crafts, hand-knitted items, boxwood trees, Attic Treasures, tag sale, books, fair trade items, jewelry, Children's Room, homemade holiday baked goods, RADA knives, poinsettias, thaw & heat homemade casseroles, soups, meatballs, and a visit from Santa.  A free door prize drawing will take place at 10 a.m.– must be present to win. Come and join the fun.   

The Living Supplies Closet is open on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon. Located in basement of Christ Church, the “Closet” provides local residents in need with the opportunity to obtain items that cannot be purchased with government assistance. Donations of items or cash are always needed and greatly appreciated.

Central Baptist Church

WESTERLY — Join us Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for Pastor Cal Lord’s message “The Gift of Abiding Hope” this Sunday at our 10:30 AM worship service.  Stay after worship for our Advent Family celebration.

Our adult Bible study choices are: “Committed to Christ,” which is an interactive study on the weekly sermons; a study on the book of Daniel and a women’s study, “Becoming Heart Sisters.” All are welcome at these classes held on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. Our building is handicapped accessible. WESTERLY — The church meets for worship every Sunday at the Tower Street School Community Center, 93 Tower St. Fellowship. The dress is casual and worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. Traditional Christian beliefs are taught from the Holy Bible and all are welcome. The church is especially open to people seeking to know God or trying to return to Him.
