In the Easy Chair with Pamela Grills Stein

AGE: 49.

OCCUPATION: Artist and owner of The Grills Gallery.

RESIDENCE:  Ashaway … after a 13-year absence living in Raleigh, N.C.

BORN, RAISED & GREW UP IN: I was born in the Westerly Hospital and raised in Ashaway.

RIGHT NOW, I’M IN THE MIDDLE OF: Painting a hydrangeas series.

I ENJOY SPENDING MY TIME: Spending my time with my daughter, Jordan, and our two dogs, Buttons and Pearl.

MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Starting the gallery: It bears my family name. I hope my parents, the late Richard and Patricia Grills, are smiling down on me from heaven believing I’ve added something positive to our family legacy.

I’D LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED: As a loving mother, aunt and sister. A generous person who added to the culture of our community.

TOP ON MY BUCKET LIST: To meet the fabulous Hoda and Savanah from the “Today” show.

ALWAYS IN MY POCKET: My iPhone and pizza from DCP-Voc’s Pizza (Rob and Kelly Vocatura’s place) cannot live without either … as an artist or a mom!

WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP: An artist, businesswoman and teacher — I have done two and a half. I see being an artist as a lifelong journey.

PERSON WHO HAS INFLUENCED ME THE MOST: Can’t narrow it down: my parents, my brother, Michael, and my sister-in-law Laurie, and my first bosses in the business world, Susan Santos and Jan Feyler from Girl Scouts of RI — two extraordinary women who showed me what I am capable of doing.

BOOKS ON MY NIGHT STAND: “ “Degas, a Passion for Perfection,” by Jane Munro; “F in Exams, The Very Best Totally Wrong Test Answers,” by Richard Benson; “History, Mystery and Lore of Rhode Island,” by Kelly Sullivan Pezza; and “The Mistress,” by Danielle Steel.

I AM LISTENING TO: The Revivalists, Blues Traveler, Sia, and ’70s rock.

LAST MOVIE WATCHED: “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri.” Amazing performances.

FAVORITE TV SHOW: “The West Wing.”

FAVORITE SONG: Right now it’s “Chandelier” by Sia.

FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD: Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and loaded homemade mac and cheese.

PET PEEVE: Bad drivers.

FAVORITE QUOTATION: “To thine own self be true.”

LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT ME: While in college I was cast as Holly, a troublesome camp counselor in a slasher film who met her demise with an ax to the head. Unfortunately, the project lost its funding.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED:  Was from my dad … “Only a fool doesn’t change his mind.”

ADVICE I BEST LIKE TO GIVE:  Live fully, richly, and intentionally.

IF I RULED THE WORLD I WOULD: I would hire the most intelligent, diplomatic, qualified persons I could find to replace me. I know my limits!

IF I WON THE LOTTERY, THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS: I would go to a local restaurant and anonymously buy everyone’s meal.

I DRIVE A: Bright blue 2017 Jeep Sahara.

I WISH I DROVE A:  A convertible.

ALWAYS IN MY FRIDGE: Eggs and takeout containers.

IF I COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY WITH A GROUP OF PEOPLE FROM THE PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE, I WOULD INVITE:  The cast of “Saturday Night Live” including Alec Baldwin and Donald Trump. I would just sit back in my armchair and watch the satire fly!
